I'm not sure what I'm looking at here. I was hoping some of the trailer folks can clarify if this what the seller says it is...
I've not seen one before. Tim

Wow! I have seen similar stuff, but not factory made. I would like to know more. My Google foo is very bad, but I will see what I can find.

My brother in law lives there and sent me the Craigslist listing yesterday .. he is always sending me listing he thinks I might have an interest in .. I contacted the owner and purchased it as it was very unusual and I have a number of different 1/4 Jeeps ... Sent a check out this AM to pay for the purchase as that's what the owner requested. Did not see this forum until after the fact .. I hope I did not step on anyone's toes!!

Here is a pic ..asked Pete on location there on to get me some pics: data-plate, wheels, rear of trailer and couple of pics of the chassis ASAP: I am wondering if this might not be a home built trailer utilizing a International Pick-up bed from an early 30 vehicle ... fenders are rolled like a Spen-S but without any detailed pics hard to tell.

Didn't step on mine. I'm not really in the market for a trailer. I found it interesting and thought the Bantam folks may be able to shed some light on this. I would like to see some additional photos when you get a chance. Tim |

Well unfortunately its not a Bantam trailer ... Home built with a late 40s or early 50s International Harvester (Binder) short bed pickup mounted on a whippet axle ... cute but not the real McCoy .. plan on leaving it there and listing it on CL again ... not worth it to me to ship back to my storage shop in WI.
Some pics of the Data Plate, frame and wheel, which looks like some used the hub for target practice, note the two bullet holes. |

Now I may be wrong, but aren't the two bullet holes factory made? IIRC, they are used to unscrew the hub cap so one can get to the axle nut to pack the wheel bearings.

Love it!!!! That makes perfect sense as they are opposed holes LOL .. kinda sucks not being able to look at things close and personal just via a couple of pics.. and my knowledge of whippet stuff is just slightly less than my knowledge of brain surgery My collection of military stuff is made up goodies of a slightly different bent.

Yes, the dimples are made for a spanner wrench.
They don't go on those wheels though. They are original to wood spoke wheels. They have a threaded hub and that cap screws on to the hub with the spanner wrench.
Looks like they adapted the hub to a Ford drum maybe. The wheels seem to be '36-'39 Ford Artillary wheels......they are commonly called 'wide five' Ford wheels (because of the odd 5 lug bolt pattern)
Here's the Willys version of the same cap modified as a center cap. I used the spanner wrench holes for bolt holes.
I agree, looks like a bunch of part put together to form a trailer. Nothing wrong with that, just not 'factory'.
Here's the Ford wheel........
