Hi Jeff:
I'll buy one complete set of frames @ $200 and 4 sets of small windows frames @ $30 for a total of $320 plus shipping. Please PM me as to your preferred method of payment and for my mailing address. Thank you so much for making these window and door frames, which are very difficult to find "on the loose." I look forward to being framed. |

Bob,
Nice looking top.
How good is the fit?
How long did it end up taking to get it?
What type of rivets did you end up getting for the frames? Chrome plated?
How did you form the back side of the rivets?
How many questions can I ask in 10 seconds? :D
Edit: You should do a thread on your top with lots of pics. Edited by jpet - 13 Jan. 2010 at 3:35am |

How good is the fit?
The fit is okay but there is plenty of room for improvement. If anyone would like more details please feel free to e-mail or PM me. EDIT; here I am talking about the fit of the canvas top, not the window frames. The window frames are perfect, the top has room for improvement.
How long did it end up taking to get it?
I ordered the top on April 1st and received it in the first week of December.
What type of rivets did you end up getting for the frames? Chrome plated?
I used Hanson 1/8 x 7/16" nickel plated split rivets. Hanson did not have any black rivets in stock. Mine needed to be green so the color really didn't matter. The top came with brass colored rivets that were slightly longer than the 7/16 Hanson rivets. The shorter Hanson rivets worked better for me. Slightly shorter than the Hanson's would have been even better.
How did you form the back side of the rivets?
I used a screwdriver to spread the split into a "Y" shape. Then needle nose pliars to start a curve on the very end of each leg. Then a homemade die, shaped like an "m", with a hammer to set the rivet.
I will take some photos later today. Edited by Bob W - 05 Jan. 2011 at 12:59pm |

Here is a rivet on the inside. This is a side view of the rivet setting tool I made. The rivet on the left is Hanson and the rivet on the right was included with the top. This is the end view of the rivet setting tool. I didn't take any before or during photos so here are a couple from the side. |

Jeff,
If you make a run of window frames I would also be interested in a set for a full top. I have some original ones but cannot bring myself to tear apart vintage well warn tops to make a new top. Thanks, Stev

That's a great looking product, I'm just curious how you bend those corners and keep them so flat.

Wade, can you make frames for 3A or 3B? I'm not sure which 3-series jeep my door frames are from. If the 3A frames have the same shape where the meet the door curve in the tub, then mine might be 3B.
I'd like rigid windows in my doors, but I haven't come up with a sane way to make a frame for them. What would you charge for just the frames for the doors? I could draw up a pattern to match my current cut-outs. Les Edited by LesBerg - 16 Jan. 2018 at 5:27pm |
