Would it be a sin to add the military shovel and ax brackets to a VEC? I'm pretty sure I know the how the feedback will go on this but I thought I'd ask anyway. It's a mod that I could see someone doing back then so, that's just a bit of justification. Not sure I could or would actually do it. Personally, I will not NEED the tools to be there but, I like the look.
I'm gonna go tie myself to the firing squad pole while you guys load up. Ready..... Aim.... FIRE!

It's a lot easier if you already have the indentations...
I'm adding the tools to my 2a, but finding it difficult to locate the correct ones.

I'm kind of surprised that they didn't have them from the factory or at least as an accessory. I'm sure there were plenty of left over brackets and tools. With the 2A marketed to farmers, who would be more in need of the tools than a farmer?
I think it would look as it should have been and explains why the indentions are there.
Wish they had kept the glove box and the wheel well storage too. Micah |

I believe the fuel cap gets in the way of a stock WWII tool indent straps and axe head bracket.

Hmmm. I hadn't considered that. I'll have to check it out more closely. If it happens I would at least try to source original brackets. I'm generally not a fan of repop parts and would rather clean and fix originals.

I do have the indents and have long wondered about putting them to use.
I expect that it would look right, but not get used enough to justify doing it beyond looks.

Just looking at pictures, It does look as though the fuel filler area would be at least partially blocked by the shovel handle, as Jay alluded to.

Yes, Jay hit it on the head. If you're okay with that complication, go for it. It can always be put back to original at a later date.

If the fuel cap is in the way you could put the stuff on the passenger side. I believe there was a post war military Jeep that looked like a 2a. Cant remember the model, but pioneer gear was on the right side

Yup, that would be the M38 with shovel and ax on the passenger side. The flat fender M38 looks a lot more like a CJ-3A than a CJ-2A.

Yep. Quite Right. But I HAVE seen it done by cutting the ax blade cup in half and welding it on right under the fuel cap. Tight but it does work. |
