Yes, buy a good service manual or two before you proceed. Brakes are very important.

There are supposed to be 2 large nuts on both sides and 2 washers also. The bent washer is on purpose. One bend locks the inner nut and the other bend the outer nut. You should probably get new nuts and washers as well as a large socket for installing these. Most vendors sell these and the manuals.
