Bendix joints will have a lot of slop, even when new. With enough wear, some will even fall apart when pulled.
Once assembled, end play is controlled by the axle & knuckle bushings (or end nut/shims), so they won't fall apart inside the knuckle.
To know for sure, you'd have to disassemble yours and take some measurements. If way out of spec, replace them.
Spicer replacements can be used just fine. Bendix joints are constant velocity, Spicer are not, so it's probably best to replace both. But I really don't know if it will make a difference in 4WD.
